About your questions how to upgrade and jailbreak your iPhone 3G (unlocked or official carrier) to 3.0 O/S …

Just follow the summary steps below:

1. Make sure you backup your iPhone data via the iTunes (Mac or Win) by right-click on the iPhone icon under Devices -> Backup as well as do a final Sync before you carry out any update.
2. Then, update the iTunes to v.8.2 & download the 3.0 O/S via this link à iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (can also be downloaded from iPhone Firmwares)
3. After all the above (normally take about 1-2 hours or more depends on your internet connection), plug-in your iPhone to iTunes.
4. Under the Summary Tab, press “Shift” (Win) or “Alt” (Mac) + Restore to select the [iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw] that your downloaded just now to v.3.0 (since your are fully unlocked or official maxis iPhone 3G).
5. Just leave it to update which normally take around 15-20min, then you will successful boot-up to 3.0 O/S and just follow the on-screen instruction to activate your iPhone via iTunes.
6. If you wish to jailbreak, & it’s easier & recommended to use RedSn0w (Win) with the details steps provided by iPhone Heat website below, else skip to step #7.
7. If do not wish to jailbreak your phone, just right-click on the iPhone icon under Devices -> Restore in iTunes to restore the data that you backup previously.
8. Then, resync the iPhone with iTunes to restore all the info, ringtones, music, photos, podcast, video or applications that you need.
9. The above conclude the whole upgrade process & enjoy using the 3.0 O/S as it worth the effort & there so much improvement.

Found this out from my uncle just now & I think it’s worth to check it out more for myself about this promo in next few days, will keep you all posted if any new findings … if the deal is really good, can consider to change my old iPhone to new one soon …

FYI, recently I had uploaded the customized iPhone Firmware 2.0 which I created using the Pwnage & used it to upgrade my own 1st generation iPhone (not 3G version) to the MegaUpload site for your usage.

What this custom Firmware will do as stated below:

• Lastest iPhone FW 2.0 software features & upgrade which include the access to new offical App Store by Apple.
• Update your iPhone baseband & unlock it to let you use any SIM card or mobile network.
• Jailbreak your iPhone & come with new Installer called Cydia to let you install the unofficial 3rd party apps (which not available in App Store such as the summerboard, etc.)

Below is simple step-by-step about how to upgrade your iPhone to this latest FW:

1. Before you carry-out the upgrade, remember to backup your iPhone data for the last-time by syncing the iPhone with your iTunes.

2. Download the file called “iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw” (234.28 MB) from the following link & save it on your desktop:

3. Turn off your iPhone, Connect USB cable to your iPhone and open iTunes.

4. Next, you need to get your iPhone into DFU (Device Firmware Update):

a) Hold Home and Sleep Buttons for 10 seconds

b) After 10 seconds release Sleep Button

c) Continue Holding Home Button for 10 more seconds

5. If you performed the steps above correctly you will see this message in iTunes. (If not, repeat the steps above again)

6. Once you see the above message, you will see there’s only Restore button you could click on the summary of iTunes “summary” page.

7. Next, you are to restore your iPhone using the “iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw” that you downloaded just now by using the following steps:

a) Hold down the Option/ALT-key (Mac) or SHIFT key (Windows) on your keyboard while clicking on the Restore button.

b) A file browsing dialog should appear, and you must select the firmware file “iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw”

c) Then, the iTunes will restore your iPhone with this new firmware.

8. The above restore process will take around 15-20mins and once finish restoration.

9. Then, the iPhone will reboot by itself and boot in the new FW (which you will see the bited Pineapple instead of bited Apple).

10. Remember not to disconnect or do anything with your iPhone during this reboot as the new FW will continue run the unlock & jailbreak configurations (which takes another 5-10mins).

11. Once the above is completed, then the iPhone will reboot again and this time, it will bring to the iPhone main home-screen which you could now sync the data that you backup just now in 1st step to restore all your data.

12. Finally, you have finish this iPhone custom 2.0 FW upgrade process and enjoy discover the new features, Apps Store and many more official or unofficial 3rd party apps for iPhone … below is a sample screenshot of my iPhone with this custom 2.0 FW, looks cool huh.
