To many of you that owned an iPhone 3G out there,

About your questions how to upgrade and jailbreak your iPhone 3G (unlocked or official carrier) to 3.0 O/S …

Just follow the summary steps below:

Make sure you backup your iPhone data via the iTunes (Mac or Win) by right-click on the iPhone icon under Devices -> Backup as well as do a final Sync before you carry out any update.
Then, update the iTunes to v.8.2 & download the 3.0 O/S via this link à iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (can also be downloaded from iPhone Firmwares)
After all the above (normally take about 1-2 hours or more depends on your internet connection), plug-in your iPhone to iTunes.
Under the Summary Tab, press “Shift” (Win) or “Alt” (Mac) + Restore to select the [iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw] that your downloaded just now to v.3.0 (since your are fully unlocked or official maxis iPhone 3G).
Just leave it to update which normally take around 15-20min, then you will successful boot-up to 3.0 O/S and just follow the on-screen instruction to activate your iPhone via iTunes.
If you wish to jailbreak, & it’s easier & recommended to use RedSn0w (Win) with the details steps provided by iPhone Heat website below, else skip to step #7.
If do not wish to jailbreak your phone, just right-click on the iPhone icon under Devices -> Restore in iTunes to restore the data that you backup previously.
Then, resync the iPhone with iTunes to restore all the info, ringtones, music, photos, podcast, video or applications that you need.
The above conclude the whole upgrade process & enjoy using the 3.0 O/S as it worth the effort & there so much improvement.
